Hydrodebromination of bromoarenes using Grignard reagents catalyzed by metal ions (p 51-54)
Miao Shen, Wen-Hua Sun
Published Online: Nov 10 2008 4:05AM
DOI: 10.1002/aoc.1470

Metal salts/complexes are efficient catalysts in hydrodebrominating aryl bromides under mild reaction conditions in the presence of various alkyl Grignard reagents. The homocoupling of Grignard reagents was observed as byproducts in quantitative yields.

Conversion of carbon dioxide to cyclic carbonates using diimine Ru(II) complexes as catalysts (p 68-74)
Mahmut Ulusoy, Engin Çetinkaya, Bekir Çetinkaya
Published Online: Nov 28 2008 6:22AM
DOI: 10.1002/aoc.1473

Cationic diimine Ru(II) complexes were synthesized and tested as catalysts for the formation of cyclic organic carbonates from CO2 and epoxides. These complexes as homogenous catalysts selectively transformed to carbon dioxide to five-membered cyclic carbonates. The more electron donating group on the p-position of the imine ligand accelerated the reaction rate.

CuI/PPh3-catalyzed Sonogashira coupling reaction of aryl iodides with terminal alkynes in water in the absence of palladium (p 75-77)
Jin Tao Guan, Guang-Ao Yu, Lei Chen, Tan Qing Weng, Jing Jing Yuan, Sheng Hua Liu
Published Online: Dec 3 2008 5:05AM
DOI: 10.1002/aoc.1474

A simple, practical and economical CuI/PPh3-catalyzed Sonogashira reaction of aryl iodides with terminal alkynes in water has been developed. In the presence of CuI/PPh3,OH was used as base and aryl iodides were treated smoothly with alkynes to afford the corresponding products in moderate to excellent yields.

Synthesis, characterization and catalytic studies of ruthenium(II) chalconate complexes (p 78-85)
M. Muthukumar, P. Viswanathamurthi
Published Online: Dec 18 2008 10:13AM
DOI: 10.1002/aoc.1475

Synthesis, crystal structure and properties of a new lanthanide-transition metal carbonyl cluster (p 86-90)
Jiehui Ye, Haiquan Su, Fenghua Bai, Yong Du, Yulong Zhang
Published Online: Dec 18 2008 10:13AM
DOI: 10.1002/aoc.1476

A new heterobimetallic complex containing lanthanide and transition metal carbonyl cluster, Sm2{OOCCCo3(CO)9}2{OOCCF3}4 {(CO)9Co3CCOOH}4 (see picture), has been synthesized and characterized. It was used as catalyst precursor for hydrogenation of carbon monoxide reaction, which exhibits higher activity and remarkable selectivity than its bulk counterpart prepared by the conventional technique.
